Everyone loves a summer wedding, but no one more so than Antonio Marras who recreated a charming marital reception for his SS13 show. As guests arrived at the venue they were ushered to their tables (complete with gold chairs) where they were served a delicious afternoon tea of pink and blue iced cakes to be eaten with gold knives and forks. As the wedding bells chimed, the models spilled out on to the runway like wedding guests leaving the party. Floral prints exploded across tea dresses, shirts and skirts. There were spotty blue and white pyjama suits with white panelled details and swirling 60s prints decorating knitwear, shorts and bags. Details included sharp shirt collars, nipped in waists and full skirts with petticoats peeking out flirtily underneath. Antonio Marras is a designer widely renowned for his use of texture and this season’s treasure trove of fabrics stitched together to create pretty, feminine skirts and coats didn’t disappoint. While the majority of Marras’ girls strode forth like the perfect wedding guests, the unexpected appearance of five camouflage jackets, complete with brightly coloured floral embroidery and sparkling brocades, proved that Marras’ girls have edge too. As a rendition of the Sex Pistols ‘Anarchy’ played over the speakers in tones as dulcet as the cake, it certainly suggested there was more to this collection then meets the eye.
