Ann Demeulemeester is in a serene mood for SS13, sending out her graceful sirens with dancing, trailing wisps of chiffon and flowing silk as light as air. Without taking away from the power of her uncompromising vision, Demeulemeester showed a softer, more delicate side, devoid of embellishments. Only adding thin waist belts and leather harnesses to the final looks, this was a collection that let the expert cut and lively movement of the gauzy fabric do the talking; no tricks or whistles. Black dominated as usual, with the occasional addition of deep purple or jackets cut from shiny silver duchesse satin. The silhouette was long, lean and stealth-like. occasionally disrupted by a sweeping floor length cape that floated elegantly behind or by elongated sleeves that mellowed and relaxed the strict tailoring. Red carpet dressing just got a whole lot more interesting.
