Placing our Olympic enthusiasm back its box for four years, i-D raised both a glass and the roof to London 2012 at Oakley’s ‘Closing Ceremony’.

After years of training, dieting and living with the lifestyle restraints that come with being a professional athlete, once competition is over and the medals have been dealt you most certainly deserve to let your hair down. i-D was fortunate enough to be invited, along with an array of athletes, coaches and people from all corners of the Olympic spectrum, to Oakley’s ‘Tea With The Queen’, an end of Olympic knees-up. Very much accustomed to spending timewith genetically blessed, soaring models, our eyes were opened to new heights at the shindig as merrymaking partygoers scraped the ceilings of the lofty arches of the venue. Oakley olympians were rewarded for their hard work with Brit Pop pumping sets, protein packed canapes and the opportunity the meet to The Queen, who seemed to have taken a break from her parachuting duties for the evening to join the party. With the the dance floor overflowing, Olympic medals chinked, champagne glasses clinked, topless swimmers strutted their stuff and some of the world’s finest gymnasts pirouetted atop podiums. As one might expect, ‘Tea With The Queen’ was full of surprises, humour, eccentricity and talent; all the things which made London 2012 the greatest show on earth! Thanks Oakley!
