BAPE® vs. Kreayshawn

You know you’ve made it when someone puts your face on a tee (just look at Jessie J on all those Primark singlets), but you know you’ve REALLY made it when you’ve been immortalised by Japanese super-street clothing brand BAPE®.

i-D cover star Kreayshawn is one such immortal. A year ago a virtually unknown Kreayshawn pulled her first and finest winky on the cover of our Pre-Fall, Pick Me Up Issue – and now (having put complaining about luxury brands behind her and getting some lovely hair extensions) she’s back – not only as a ferocious urban popstress, but as a wonderful BAPE-style cartoon character (tattoos, piercings and all) hanging out with super-kawaii banana munching BAPE® mascot Baby Milo. ON a recent London Town pitstop we monkeyed around with Kreay Kreay in her BAPE® finery, photographing her in the brand’s Soho flagship. Here BAPE® London Manager Dan Doyle, pictured below with Kreayshawn,  gives us the low-down on the collaboration… There’s somethin’ bout Kreay.

What five words would you use to describe the BAPE® customer? Diverse, young, modern,
individual, clued-up.

What would you say is the most important element of the design in the BAPE® collections? A sense of humour.

What was it about Kreayshawn that made you want to collaborate on a tshirt? sk8thing had we’d seen some of her stuff on you tube before ‘Gucci Gucci‘ and heard about her from her directing work. Him and some of the other guys at BAPE® really liked her look and attitude.

Who would you like to see sporting the new Kreayshawn X BAPE® design? It’s for the fans.

Are Kreyashawn and Baby Milo BFFs? Do they have friendship tattoos? Milo doesn’t have any tattoos because he is a monkey.

Good. If Baby Milo and Kreyashawn were to take an i-D reader out for the day what would we do? I think would involve lots of shopping In Tokyo

Who would you like to collaborate with next? Milo has collaborated with Marvel for both Spiderman and The Avengers that’s out now!
