It was a snakeskin jacket worn by the main character in David Lynch’s 1990 flick Wild At Heart that had laid the ground for the texture-tastic Miharayasuhiro SS13 collection. But looking at the shininess of a peach and black Western shirt, a wet-look black jacket, or a red bike race slogan cardigan, it might as well have been the already-iconic glossy silver baseball jacket that Ryan Gosling wears in Drive. Americana was in the air, and in a big way. Leather trousers and outdoorsy waistcoats and gilets were practically begging for a lift down Route 66, while the models’ greasy 1950s forelocks hinted at another Lynch masterpiece, Twin Peaks, and the gritty, sinister surroundings and characters it represents. Yet the show was given an entirely different accent as well, courtesy of Japanese artist Jun Inoue, who had adorned a series of exits in his signature shodo graffiti, as well as the show’s paint-splashed finale looks, which matched the backdrop he so frantically live-painted during the show. Letting the wildness out of his heart is a good colour on Mihara.
