insi-De eye: Astrid Andersen

Featured in our Spring 2011′s The Exhibitionist Issue, i-D heralded Astrid Andersen (AA) as the fashion equivalent of her automative namesake… a saviour. Just over a year down the line, we catch-up with the Danish designer and lift the lid on her much acclaimed SS13 collection.

Graduating from the RCA with a Fashion Menswear MA in 2010, Astrid has moved fast. Whilst at the Royal College – under the tutelage of i-D Contributing Fashion Director, Simon Foxton – she began to develop her now refined, mega-luxe athletic aesthetic. Never has a shell-suit seemed so butch, her pieces are made for the kind of masculine sport star who bounces around the court of life keeping his shorts spotless and his kicks box-fresh by squashing any potential threats. Two seasons on the London catwalk as part of Fashion East‘s MAN line-up, her SS13 collection, cast and styled by i-D Fashion Editor Elgar Johnson, debuted to much acclaim last month. Building on her sporting signature and her penchant for all things cropped and pouffed, she added an extra frisson of feminity with a little light lacing on tees, vests and even some laddish leggings. Visiting Astrid, she talked i-D online through her roots, her individuality and 21st century religion. We pray at the church of AA… do you?!
