i-Society: Sónar 2012

Sun, sea, sand and mind-blowing sounds, located in the cosmopolitan sun-soaked city of Barcelona, Sónar is the most polished event on the festival calendar.

Spanning three days and two nights, staged in the winding streets of El Raval by day and in vast warehouses on the outskirts of town by night, Sónar is a multi- sensory delight for brave ravers. Housing a wealth of talent, this year’s line-up welcomed Flying Locus, DJ Spinn, DJ Rashee, Nguzunguzu and DJ Harvey to the Red Bull Stage and Totally Enormous Extinct Dinosaur and Nicolas Jaar to the Sónar Village Stage. And deep breath: Fatboy Slim, deadmau5, Jacques le Cont, Hot Chip, New Order, Richie Hawtin, James Blake, Blawan, Modeselektor, Kode9, Square Pusher and Juilo Bashmore all played spell-binding night time sets in the fesival’s nocturnal home; a cavernous hangar to the east of the city. Minimal beats and fervent energies kept fast-dancing feet going from sunrise to sunset.

Ripped tees, ginger beards, beaming grins, daisy dukes, bandanas and bandeau bras were all the rage at this year’s fiesta. i-D online dispatched the ever beady-eyed Stephanie Sian Smith to spy the eye-popping looks commanding everyone’s attention.
