For the fourth and most ambitious i-D MIX night to date we called in in some high-powered, DJM2000 equipment for headline act Nicole Moudaber to power out her sounds on. The results blew our minds and then our eardrums.

Using chairs as podiums and tables as dance-floors, everyone at last night’s July i-D MIX night was infected with the rave. Forgetting anything but the lineup, crowds battled through the rain only to get soaking wet in their own sweat, breaking out to the brazen beats from a series of pretty boys and one hot woman. i-D warmed up the evening, wiling away the early evening with July’s mix tape, cranking the volume high on our favourite MP3s, ‘TNIGHT‘ courtesy of Lunice X Hudson Mohawke, ‘Fantasea‘ dreamt up by Miss Azealia Banks and ‘This1 That1‘ by Mick Monaco and Kill Frenzy. Eyes Down event organiser, Ice 9 stepped up to command the next hour of play, charming the assembling audience with some hip-hop and house. Booting the boy who always knows better from behind the booth, Marco Del Horne and Last Japan then went head-to-head for a full hour and suddenly the venue was rammed. Battling it out with some filthy house, full-bodied techno and grime-fuelled bass the two kept energies high until Tom Wrankmore, aka Eliphino arrived to demonstrate what he could do on deck for his highly hyped appearance. Signed to Somethinksounds and making some serious waves in the dance music scene right now, he played a selection of his own tracks and the dance-floor became a death trap.
Stepping out for a breath of fresh air just in time to catch Nicole Moudaber roll up in style, for her headline slot all eyes turned to the curly haired brunette. Curious to discover how her stadium filling sound would translate to a smaller setting, Nicole set herself up with a hefty amount of equipment before spinning hypnotic sounds from the speakers, check out her essential mix for more from her now and expect a whole heap more on i-D online soon. Shox was next on the wheels of steel, spinning his dub rinsed sensibilities into one brash mash up that kept going until the plug got pulled. Full on and very fun, it all came together quite perfectly for another i-D MIX night packed with incredible electronic music. We’ll be taking a break for August, but you can expect an all out party come September. Be ready.
Tune into July’s i-D mixtape right here, right now and stay glued to i-D on Facebook and Twitter for all the latest on our #iDMIX series.
