Opening with a model boldly clasping a clutch, Wooyoungmi’s SS13 collection showcased a gentleman getting in touch with his feminine side. The Korean designer produced an energetic assortment of looks this season, from fun florals and bold prints to smart suits and sleek, summertime silhouettes made up of shorts, shirts and even a playsuit. Known for her architectural approach to design, Wooyoungmi kept things sharp and streamlined throughout, with excellently tailored suits, jackets and trousers that were both smart and modern. However, the designer also kept things playful by combining strong, defining shapes with light fabrics, various prints and an ever-changing colour palette of pink, grey, blood-orange and mustard yellow. Key looks included an elegant grey floral suit, a black and white gingham waistcoat and striped pyjama-style trousers teamed with shiny brogues and black sandals. The Wooyoungmi signature coat, constructed out of lightweight fabric, was also re-worked well for spring and offered in a variety of alluring prints and colours. Celebrating its 10th anniversary this year, the Wooyoungmi brand continues to go from strength to strength, with a distinct style of light textures and innovative tailoring becoming more and more developed. With bold collections like these, it’s clear that sometimes all menswear needs is a female touch.
