The first face out (top right) on Vivienne’s catwalk in Milan looked like one of Caravaggio’s beautiful boys – the ‘Boy Bitten by a Lizard’, for instance – come to life… his curly locks encircled in a colourful wreath of laurels and flowers, his floaty white pirate shirt billowing, his pale grey trousers paired with monogrammed slippers. Our favourite outfit – look 13 (bottom left) – mixed a leafy halo, a slouchy navy suit, and a T-shirt printed with one of Caravaggio’s vibrant fruit bowls. Butterflies hung off necklaces, handkerchiefs poked into top pockets and Keith Haring patterns were printed onto sweatshirts, but the blooms stole the show. Whether it’s flowery wreaths at Vivienne Westwood or petals pressed onto faces at Christopher Shannon, spring/summer 13 is all about blossoming boys.
