NEWSFLASH: The SS13 Valentino man wears trainers.

Admittedly they are very fancy trainers, often dressed-up with a summery suit and a man-bag, but they wear trainers none-the-less. Showing their first Valentino menswear collection in the Palazzo Corsini last season, Creative Directors Pierpaolo Piccioli and Maria Grazia Chiuri returned to Firenze yesterday to show in the spectacular Boboli Gardens. A stellar-cast of groomed chaps pottered down the runway against a backdrop of even better groomed bushes. Where for AW12 the Valentino man was a discreet, gloved assailant, this season he was more brazen and athletic in his action hero tendencies. Trainers were complimented by sporty fabrics, mesh-backed jackets great for a sprint pursuit down the cobbled streets, and mega-luxe, laser-cut, layered leather camo bags, the perfect place to conceal a medium sized firearm. Another successful collection that will no doubt clad aspiring MI5 agents across the globe, for the second time Valentino brought a real feeling of refinement and class to Pitti proceedings. Wearable and experimental in just the right measures, the two minds behind the Valentino man have successfully established an aesthetic that is both exciting and viable in these austere times. Let’s cross our fingers Florence and pray that Valentino’s here to stay.
