Miuccia Prada’s unapologetic simplicity marks the start of an exciting new chapter, as a cool minimalism looks set to wash in for 2013. There were navy blue, burgundy and beige suits, with two-tone trousers and shirts, overcoats and polo shirts with sharp collars in contrasting hues and rubber sandals worn with socks. Backstage, Miuccia described it as a “back to basics” collection that wiped the slate clean, and saw everything from the music to the bright white set stripped back to its rawest form. Miuccia added eleven womenswear looks three days before the show; mink overcoats had to be dyed, garments cut and girls flown in. For Miuccia it wasn’t a problem, she enjoys the last minute rush as it keeps everything fresh and immediate, something vital for a collection like this. As the models appeared from ‘on high’ and descended ramps into the main arena, there was something beautiful about the elegant simplicity. This is what it is. There’s no fuss, or pomp, or unnecessary fanfare. These clothes do exactly what they say on the tin. They’re beautiful, well-executed separates made to make you feel that little bit more special everyday.
