You have to love the concept of a summer leather jacket: the notion that this indispensable staple is so key to your personality that you’ll have to find a way to wear it in the summer, too. Stuart Vevers is a master of these sorts of luxuries, a fact proved over and over again at Loewe’s SS13 presentation in Paris yesterday. Inspired by the Spanish nobility’s holidays on the Costa Brava, iconic 40s images of Picasso in his studio and Gary Cooper visiting Madrid, Vevers conjured up a distinctly Spanish collection embodying the masculinity, sensuality and boldness he’d observed in Spanish men. In adapting leathers to a summer wardrobe, Vevers created an array of different textures and feels giving the collection a dynamic vibe, which played on a sense of old-schoolness easily compliant with a modern wardrobe. It was a warm collection, not least due to a golden palette of browns and oranges – it was as if you could literally feel the Costa Brava sun in the leathers – and one that so perfectly complemented a string of minimal suede bags in a greyish sandy tone, which seemed to sum up the laid-back, unfussy attitude of the Loewe man.
