Following on from a nightmarish (in the best way) autumn/winter 12 show of dark, gothic elves, Katie’s spring/summer 13 show whisked us away into a dreamy world of Cali skate culture and spoilt Miami princesses; it all looked like it should be worn poolside on a sunny Snoop video shoot. Boys had slimy hair, skateboards and towels (branded “Katie Eary”), while girls sported spray-on tans and Kim Kardashian bikinis that jiggled when they walked. Silks arrived in shades of orange sunbursts, aquamarine oceans full of golden fish – Arrowanas, we think – and tasty-looking octopus tentacles, and were paired up with gilded shark’s tooth necklaces and patent crocodile backpacks. It was all very Versace rococo decadence, with a dash of The Little Mermaid… and, in Waka Flocka Flame’s Round of Applause, Katie had the best show song ever (“Round of applause baby make that ass clap/ Drop it to the floor, make that ass clap”). Although it caught us unawares, we applaud her totally tropical taste, clap!
