Jil Sander. Milan, 23/06/12

Jil Sander returned to her own label, after a seven-year hiatus, with a crisp, minimal collection of clean tailoring and slim line silhouettes. There were jackets stretched to the knee, teamed with full black shorts, brogues and socks. Drop shouldered peacoats in Klein blue and mustard, and a series of Mondrian inspired prints that added ‘look at me’ pop to T-shirts, cashmere cardigans and shirts. The collection, while thoroughly Jil, offered a nod to the successful aesthetic Raf Simons developed during his tenure at the label, making an almost seamless transition between the two designers. The somewhat sombre colour palette of navy, burgundy, Klein blue, mustard and white was perfectly set off by the classical soundtrack, offering welcome serenity to the Milan madness. Welcome back Jil.
