Jean Paul Gaultier took his nautical inspiration to the Middle East this season and Sinbad the Sailor was his leading man. The collection was presented in a showroom on bearded, turbaned men. Gaultier mixed the classic sailor uniform with elements of Eastern Influences. High waisted flaired trousers with button panals and sailor neck ties were given eastern promise by adding beading embroidery and harem shapes to the collection. Although the sailor theme is quite a classic one the collection felt very modern and bold; shorts were combined with kilts, bondage style harnesses were worked into classic suits and there was even a hint of summer leather. Although the collection wasn’t shown on the catwalk this season it sill contained all the fun and theatrics that you would expect from Jean Paul Gaultier.
