For SS13, Issey Miyake showed a practical collection focused on utility and movement without any compromise to style. The collection was dedicated to the modern city man commuting to work on his bicycle, with some models pedalling down the catwalk to reiterate Issey’s inspiration. Structured city shorts were teamed with jackets and sweaters for some protection against an unpredictable summer climate. Much of the collection was made with a Japanese paper called Washi. Silhouettes were kept clean yet often boxy, structured and oversized. An introduction of tie-dye and even a reworked hi-vis jacket gave a touch of tongue-in-cheek fun while still remaining true to the ease and quiet elegance of the brand.
