i-DJ: Tomas Barfod

Every time Danish house DJ and producer Tomas Barfod touches the turntables he gets it just right.

Stitching together upbeat, ear-pleasing and progressive melodies, Tomas Barfodd is a big man with delicate sensibilities. First establishing himself as Whomadewho’s drummer, then collaborating with friend and musical partner Kacper Bjorke, before putting out releases on Kompakt with Jatoma, Tom’s previous is in doubling up with talent as opposed to riding solo. Distributing his own dance focussed material on Turbo and Get Physical, 2012 marks a change of direction for Tom as he brings the tempo down a few beats per minute, teaming up with visionary collective and imprint FOF to release his latest works on LP The Salton Sea.

Receiving four stars from the definitive voice of electronic music Resident Advisor, the website describes his rushing, drip-pop as “a completely unabashed reach for pure musical bliss that shouldn’t work as well as it does.” Remixed by the anonymous king of atmospheric ambiance Shlohmo, single release ‘Broken Glass’ is one of the most exciting tracks to drop in 2012. Sombre, considered and macabre Tom’s offerings on The Salton Sea still seem to maintain an upbeat energy. i-D online secured a one hour and one minute mix from Mr B. We got lucky, play this out.
