i-DJ: Rampa

Ramming his distinctive hybrid techno-house tracks full of deliciously infectious hooks, Rampa is the joker of the dance music scene who’s laughing the loudest right now.

Living in Berlin, engineering collaborations with underground producers and vocalists, Rampa is the beautiful love-child of the pioneering collective behind imprint Keinemusik. Skating, record-crate digging, caffeine-dosing and turntable-riding, he lives his life just the way he likes it. i-D Online jetted through Germany to find out more about how this heady tech-head gets his kicks in his Berlin stomping ground.

“I’m actually an early bird during the week to make most of the time on days when I’m not working at night. So I get up around 8am and start my day with some exercise at the gym. Places I like to go to are mostly around Mitte. One of my favourite places to hang at the moment is Galao, which is right next to the Weinbergspark. It’s a great place during summer to get a healthy snack and some fresh juices. The next stop for the best coffee you can get in town is Kristiania (Fehrbelliner Straße). It’s a tiny café, which is kept very simple – only a retro coffee machine and a super nice Norwegian guy, who actually takes ages to get the coffee done, but it’s always worth <3. After some healthy stuff I usually pop over to my mate’s skate shop (which you should check out if you’re into skating) Civilist on Brunnenstraße 13, spending hours talking to Foley and Hesse about our “Tröpfchen” theory.. Time for some good food now. Two of my favourites are DUDU and Wimbis. DUDU does Asian fusion food. My friends run it, so it’s easy for my to get really picky and order some specials, but their general menu is already really inviting. On days when I’m not going to the studio to make music, I just hang around with my label buddys Adam Port, &ME and David Mayer or go to the skate spot called Pappelplatz with my roommates. They do tricks and I do hurt myself. I don’t really like hanging out in bars. I rather spend time at my mate’s homes or have long nights in the studio. I’m mostly out of town during the weekends. But whenever I’m in Berlin I play at clubs like Watergate, Stadtbad, Horst, Kater Holzig, Wilde Renate, Weekend and Cookies. The keinemusik nights at Watergate and Horst are always big fun. Just hook me up on Facebook if you’re in town… maybe there is a guestlist space left. You always should keep your ears and eyes open for some open air raves in Berlin – the Vibe in Berlin the best!”
