Kicking off with stone wash triple denim and The Beach Boys on the stereo, it was a patriotic start for all-American super brand Calvin Klein. The collection started clean, casual and very Californian with jeans, denim shirts and off-white shorts paired with matching tees and sunglasses. The boys then turned sharp and smart with light grey suits and fun pattern print T-shirts. It was Zucchelli’s interesting use of fabric that shone at this point– shirts, trousers and boxer-style shorts were constructed from shimmering nylon and cotton silk, creating a metallic effect that stood out as a key feature of the collection. Next, Guns N’ Roses’ Sweet Child O’ Mine hit the soundtrack and things turned darker as all-black silhouettes paced down the runway, with looks consisting of leather jackets, bombers and silk trousers. Velcro leather shoes were prevalent throughout – a likely new trend for the season ahead, and the models themselves were classic ‘Klein’ – boasting powerful, athletic physiques and excellent jaw-lines. A strong collection from Creative Director Italo Zucchelli, whilst remaining loyal to the brand’s signature cool aesthetic, he played with tailoring and textures to inject a very sophisticated and contemporary twist. Living the American dream.
