Presenting his collection at London Fashion Week for the first time, i-D favourite Alex Mattsson wants to believe. In a futuristic exploration of UFOs, close encounters of the fashion kind and “alien minimalism”. Alex collaborated with stylist Matthew Josephs on many-layered looks that showed off his trademark mind-altering prints and outsized basketball silhouettes – it was a sort of journey through inner cities and inner space. XXXL shorts and sporty bottoms were worn with shirts and vests in outstanding digital patterns, and we especially love a minty fresh fade that looked like it was lifted from a spaceship in 2001: A Space Odyssey, worn with tailored shades of battleship grey. Alex started out playing with military uniforms from the mysterious Area 51 in the Nevada Desert, exploring the extra-terrestrial abduction experiences of soldiers there, and he’s ended up with a vibrant, lush collection that we’d love to wear out to the rave; as @annatrevelyan tweets, “amazing T-shirt print by @AlexMattsson makes me think of Dance Dance Revolution!”
Last week as Alex sweated it out in the studio, i-D online dropped by for a nose… see what we found here.
