Despite the fact that the 60-year reign of Queen Elizabeth II covers about a hundred fashion revolutions – including the introduction of ready-to-wear, the women’s liberation, and the cone bra – Her Majesty has never been one for a fast fashion fad. Much in the vein of her predecessors, our sovereign has prided herself on a rigid set of style values rooted in firm protocol with a nod to practicality. If hairstyles, hemlines and heel heights have been altered, the changes have been miniscule. But in the Queen’s admirable indifference towards seasons and trends, our monarch has become something of a fashion icon in her own right. For SS12, designers paid homage to the most self-assured dresser in the world, and honoured the Queen of Queens with more than just a few salutes on the catwalks. i-D online gives you our top regal catwalk looks, with many thanks to Her Majesty for 60 years of diamond dressing. After all, the greatest icons in the world have always relished in a strong signature look.
