i-Think: Charlotte Stockdale on Chanel Cruise 2013

Chanel don’t do things by halves and as the sun shone on Paris’s Palace of Versailles yesterday, i-D Fashion Director Charlotte Stockdale put palm to palm to applaud King Karl’s latest creations for the house’s Cruise 2013 collection.

In true Chanel style, everything fell into place. As the sun shone down on the palatial gardens, Karl assembled a collection dusted with regal opulence and 21st century fairytale frivolity. In Charlotte’s own words, “It was teenage rock ragga meets Marie Antoinette!” Metalic gold brothel creepers and white wide-legged pantaloons met ruffled necks and a palette heavy with powder pink. As ever, Chanel’s stellar team laid on quite the extravaganza; Global Creative Make-up Director, Peter Philips presented pale princesses, cheekbones dotted with the house’s iconic interlocked c’s; hair-raising coiffeur extraordinaire Sam McKnight created beautiful bobbed barnets in every colour of the rainbow and music maestro Michel Gaubert laid down a smashing summer soundtrack, in his own words, “Ghetto Royale! Or King of pop at Versailles!”. As an army of i-D favourites (think Cara, Saskia and Lindsey) paraded through the gardens for the finale, the fashion pack were straight on their Blackberrys booking their oceanic adventures and filling their trunks with Karl’s cracking new collection.
