Last weekend New York’s Meatpacking District added yet another name to its designer sidewalk with the arrival of British boot-making extraordinaire, Mr. Nicholas Kirkwood.

With his first store on US soil sandwiched between Intermix, the Whitney Museum of Art and Soho House, i-D online witnessed The Yanks welcome this designer with open arms at 807 Washington Street.

Resembling a SS12 catwalk, the entrance boasts a brightly lit aisle, dotted with shoes elegantly placed in miniature alcoves. At the end: a grand hexagon velvet sofa inviting you to sit, to try and to purchase. On this particular Friday night, the stores’ white, and grey colour scheme and minimal décor, created the perfect backdrop to celebrate the transatlantic travels of one of the most exciting footwear designer of the last few years.

Guests including DJ Hannah Bronfman and fashion muse Michelle Harper, writer Derek Blasberg sashayed through the shoes and swayed to 80s house music. As they brushed past exposed brick walls and teetered in and out of the stores’ private courtyard – complete with vintage garden furniture, they mixed with designers Erdem Moralioglu and Prabal Gurung.

Designed to emphasise space – an element this particular city lacks- Kirkwoods’ new abode houses his entire collection- including collaborations with Peter Pilotto, Erdem, Rodarte and Prabal Gurung. Floor to ceiling mirrors, eccentrically fabulous footwear and bathroom facilities – what else could a woman want?
