Last week, i-D online’s mixtape broke out in a fresh dancehall sweat at the first of our open-wide, totally free, monthly i-D MIX nights at London’s XO BAR.

Fast gaining musical momentum in its short history, each month our mixtape serves up twists and turns from music’s finest across an ever-expanding spectrum (clap your ears around our back catalogue here). With April’s instalment featuring smash hits from Apples and Pears, Jai Paul and a total Minaj-o-rama, Team i-D swooped into XO BAR and set the dancefloor aflame with a stellar set to 700 guests.
Kick-starting proceedings, the Beaty Heart boys broke in the XO decks with sound-savvy serpent supremeo Snakehips lending the chaps a hand in getting the punters shuffling. Wednesday night cobwebs suitably blasted, i-D Assistant Editor and mixtape monarch, Milly McMahon took respite from the dancefloor, taking to the booth to premiere this month’s musical medley (listen for yourselves here). Ever eclectic and always full of a little bit of everything, girls and boys boogied the night away as Amerie soundclashed with Jamie Jones and SBTRKT salsa’d with Jessie Ware.
Taste-buds tantalised, secret guest Gang Colours delivered quite the amuse-bouche. Taking things down a beat, his set saw heads dip and shoulders bounce. Table laid, it-kid on the block Brey stepped-up to satisfy the keen clan of fans that had gathered to witness his mash-up; Missy met Jay, hands hit the ceiling and the decibels peaked. Rounding things off, Mr Mulletover himself Geddes saw in the midnight hours with an epic set jam packed full of disco beats, the perfect climax to a cracking night.
A right royal hoot, i-D’s community of contributors hopped, stepped and jived with mixtape fans and musical maestros. And it doesn’t end there… We’re already counting down the weeks (it’s three) until part two in May. With some more fantastically well-tuned folk in the pipeline, you’d be mad to miss it!
