Radio presenter and DJ Rita Maia is the Portuguese pocket rocket on a one woman mission to master the perfect mix.
Cherry-picking decent tunes from obscure and emerging circles, Rita is a woman of profound musical instincts. Securing her own weekly show on Resonance FM entitled ‘Sine Of The Times‘, she pours passion into her work spending every waking moment with her ear to the ground. Starting out amongst underground bass culture collective, the BadMood crew, spread across Lisbon, London and Berlin, Rita found her feet playing gigs and presenting live music shows around the globe. Still heavily involved with the collective, Bad Mood recently founded their own imprint. Pushing forward on the peripheries of greatness, Rita’s focus is on promoting those she believes deserve attention and acclaim. Hosting highly commended Notting Hills Arts Club night ‘Talking At Me‘ each second Friday of every month, past headliners have included The Young Turks, Ben Westbeech, The Move and Frank Snow. Working spontaneously, never reading from a script or allowing herself to be influenced by an artist’s commercial success, the sounds you’ll hear on Rita’s watch will be played because she knows they’re special. The Maia seal of approval is enough for i-D online, so we commissioned an exclusive mix from the curly-haired scratcher and sampler to get this weekend off to a foot-stomping, head-nodding start. Perhaps one of the greatest i-DJ mixes to date.
