Backstage Stella McCartney talked about the need for harmony, telling i-D online that “The Stella woman is about balance”. Her collection backed-up her philosophy impressively, showing an ultra modern wardrobe that was both grown-up and serious, yet distinctly playful and feminine. An oversize coat, with a boxy 80s-influenced shoulder, fastened with diagonal zipper, opened the show and was followed by buttoned-up blouses with graphic botanical embroideries, heavily textured jumpers and slouchy man-tailored pants. Highlights included some serious Saville Row tailoring paired with sporty knit collars and “spot-on” outerwear that ticked the all the trend boxes this season. Long-sleeve dresses with kicky hemlines added a sprint finish, pieced together from stretchy tweed and ergonomic blocks of blue and white. We’d say she won this one by a mile.
