In many shows you have to work hard to make the clothes relevant off the catwalk; you wonder how you could adapt them to your personal style. Neil Barrett’s strength is that he’s done it for you. Every item in his AW12 collection is 100% desirable – the full look, not just parts and pieces. Taking inspiration from his menswear collection, Barrett told i-D online “I chose the best things and tweaked them for women. I took the oversize volumes and duffle coats, the pea coats and crombies and added fur, sheepskin, goat and used engineered, fused fabrics. But everything is comfortable and lived in. That’s the whole idea, slouchy but chic”. The silhouette was big on top, skinny on bottom and very very flattering. “It’s an evolution of the Neil Barrett woman. I think I’ve arrived at a different level”, he continued, “and she’s just like my girl friends, she’s like all the women I know.” Matching luxury with sport; fur coats with track pants or sweatshirts with suit trousers, everything went with everything. It was the perfect winter wardrobe. Giant bomber jackets that jutted out at the back and white stripe track pants were the stars of the show, but this sky was full of them.
