A lesson in how to set the scene from Moncler Creative Director Giambattista Valli. Transporting us to higher altitudes, Valli created a winter wonderland for Moncler’s AW12 show complete with operational chair lift and two inches of snow on the catwalk. Chic après skiers were positioned on chairs all in white with 60s shades. The show kicked-off with male models, some carrying suitcases, some skis, wearing moon boots and bell boy style ski jackets, paving the way for the women, who just had to look pretty. Elegantly descending in all black and all white skiwear, they wore thigh-high Yeti boots, Mongolian lamb mittens, collars and hoods. Huge Bonnie Tyler hair, heavy eye makeup and a healthy dose of leopard print added an 80s feel to the resort. Classic Moncler jackets came with fuzzy fur trims broken up by horizontal zips, a few in check and the finest in full look creams with quilted coats. Models covered head-to-toe except for a rosy face had the appearance of Russian dolls, poised to pop! A series of grey mountain-printed jackets closed the show, reigning in the theme for those still stumped. Parallel turning our way out, we’re now seriously considering wearing full ski looks to work.
