All aboard the 10 o’clock Louis Vuitton Express! A real vintage locomotive (made from scratch for the show) steamed into the “station” pulling a carriage of perfectly attired young ladies in large squishy hats and beautifully embellished clothes, referencing the turn of the century. As they alighted onto the “platform,” each was met by her own smartly dressed porter, alluding to the romantic “golden-age” of travel rather than the disappointing EasyJet world of today. Two-by-two they strode the length of the concourse, each porter carrying several pieces of exquisite Louis Vuitton baggage for each glamorous passenger. Wearing A-line dresses layered over cropped tailored trousers and stiff coats heavily decorated with jewelled accoutrements, Jacobs managed to tick three trend boxes with stylish ease, while long line coats elongated the silhouette and patchwork leathers added serious luxe appeal. Mustard lames fused onto cashmere dresses gleamed alongside warm orange fur collars and psychedelic 70′s patterns brought things firmly into mid century territory. Whilst the references might be nostalgic, there was plenty of uber desirable, fantastic modern clothes behind the train station spectacle. Marc Jacobs: the perfect blend of showman and fashion designer extraordinaire!
