Equestrian was a minor trend in Paris this season (Givenchy, Hermès) and Loewe creative director Stuart Vevers name-checked the “royal Baroque riding schools of the South of Spain” as the spark for the creative journey behind his collection. Decorative tooling and embossed leather, that appear in Spanish saddlery, was everywhere, be it in small details such as leather straps across the collarbone on one coat that gave a tough edge to an otherwise lady-who-lunches jacket, or larger elements such as moulded pieces towards the end of the show. Swathes of precise laser cut leather featured on bomber jackets and circle skirts, moved along to a series of leather trench-coats and prim ponyskin overcoats and finally transferred to the matte leather moulded dresses. Katie Hillier was backstage to lend support to her friend Stuart who looked quite the gentleman in white Loewe trousers with navy suit jacket.
