Beautifully romantic, and enchantingly anonymous synth-pop soul duo Rhye compose bittersweet symphonies about their mutual love.
Creating a personal soundtrack to their relationship, expressing unspoken, heartfelt sentiments to one other through their songs, Rhye currently exist totally anonymously. Originally hailing from Copenhagen and Toronto, the now LA-based pairing first connected over their deep love of 60′s soul music and classical movie soundtracks. Signed to Innovative Leisure and already adored by essential music read The Fader, Rhye are one of the most unusual artists on the scene and are certainly on the cusp of greatness. Here, i-D online brings you the latest cryptic update straight from the mouths of Rhye and an intimate i-N session recorded exclusively by the mysterious couple.
Love
I flew into Berlin wide-eyed and open to new things. I was looking forward to a beautiful summer of hanging-out and writing music. She came to visit me there so I could shoot her. The week she was there I wish lasted for ever, it changed everything for me. It was pure joy. She was the first person I had been with that really made me feel that I could truly be me. I took her to the airport, wishing the entire ride I could stop time.
Music
I was working on a remix for them that I decided to sing on. I sent it over and his response was, “Why not just turn this into a new song?” So, I flew up to Copenhagen from Berlin with plans to work on the track over the weekend but the one song became three by the end of the trip. He moved to L.A.and I flew out there work on a video and while there continued working with him to see where we could take these three tracks. It was January. Jamie and Nate from Innovative Leisure said they would be really interested in working with us on this project and we decided to turn it into a full length…
