Who run the world? Er, GIRLS dummy! In The Whatever The Weather Issue, i-D’s Music Editor Hattie Collins rounds-up some of finest British femmes in the music industry right now. Set to storm the the pop scene in the year ahead, put your hands together for Stooshe!
Tipped for the top in the BBC Sound Poll 2012, this London-based three-piece have not only disregarded the girl band code of conduct, they’ve ripped it into teeny tiny shreds. They swear, they talk about sex, they wear weird clothes, they have opinions and they’re really funny. Oh and they can sing. Changing the title of their first single from ‘Fuck Me’ to the more chart palatable ‘Love Me’, Stooshe are working with hitmakers FutureCut and Linda Perry and have the likes of Travie McCoy in their videos. Alex, Karis and Courtney AKA Stooshe (a nod to street slang “stoosh” which means thinking you’re too nice) this talented trio offer a powerful proposition for pop music; ignoring the rules, writing their own manifesto and delivering a truly unique take on urban pop music. “It’s time for woman power,” notes Alex. “It’s about grown women business now.”
All clothing Stooshe’s own.
