Zero + Maria Cornejo. New York, 13/02/12

Maria Cornejo is an art photographer, a fashion designer and a textile adventurer (this collection included such unexpected materials as bamboo, ceramica and alpaca) and she combined all these skills for AW12. Her gorgeous prints, although abstract in appearance, are actually derived from iPhone photos that she’s snapped herself; they’re digitally printed onto thin silks and pattern-cut into flowing gowns and baggy blouses, or used as designs for hand-knit Bolivian textiles. Maria’s models were wrapped up like chocolates – a trend best exemplified in a bright blue, slimmed-down sister to her signature Cocoon Coat – or set free in billowing cascades of fabric – such as a waterfall of a purple blouse and skirt in silk crepe. A wonderful sweet shop of a show.
