Wild women do at Versace, as Donatella presented a tough, futuristic yet feminine collection of black leather, chain mail and studs. Models sported crude blunt fringes reminiscent of Rooney Mara in The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo. Boots were thigh-high, chunky and perfect for stomping in. While seamed, studded black leather jackets, dresses and skirts doubled up as armour for our fast-paced modern world. Heavily embellished crucifixes – paying homage to Gianni Versace’s last couture collection of autumn/winter 97 – added a darkly romantic, gothic twist. As did flashes of medieval yellow, orange and red. The evening gown finale reinforced Donatella’s passion for the female form, with stiff bustiers, corset detailing and metal inserts to accentuate the hips. As the models charged down the LED lit runway, the jewelled letters of Versace spelt out beneath their feet, artfully marrying the past with the present and showing the house of Versace at its very best.
