Looming large on the i-D horizon, appearing in both of the most recent issues (here and here), Shaun Samson is the straight outta California designer bringing a slice of The Golden State to Blighty’s menswear landscape. Presenting for AW12 as part of the tip top MAN trio, Shaun showed a collection packed with pizzaz. An astute eye for what’s hot right now, Shaun inflated silhouettes with oversized mesh tees, low crotch dungarees and furry monster jumpers. Barnets came buzz-cut and Timberland boots came in coordinating pastel colours. Two words to watch for the future ‘Shaun’ and ‘Samson’, were emblazoned across pieces, a big boys’ brand, we reckon the sky’s the limit for S.S. In the run-up to the show, i-D online slipped into Shaun’s studio to document his preparations with film-maker Santiago Arbelaez and then ducked backstage as the antics unfolded in London’s Royal Opera House.
