Ports 1961. New York, 15/02/12

The Ports 1961 show was an exercise in contrasts of light, of absorption and reflection, on a dark grey carpeted catwalk with a black backdrop. It all started with Aymeline Valade striding out, with stripped-down make-up and straightforward centre-parted hair, in a floor-length flannel-grey skirt and a black cashmere roll-neck; over which was layered a boxy, oversized T in shimmering metallic blue and gold. Elsewhere these shiny wet-look fabrics were played off against baggy drab-green suede boots that towered over the knee, and stunning sheered mink. Throughout the show the roll-neck was ubiquitous, appearing in everything from midnight cable-knits to shadowy peppermint jerseys, and even the snowy, minimalist party dresses that ended the show were accessorised with soft, furry snoods. A classy collection for anyone that loves understated autumnal shades… or for anyone covering up love bites on your neck!
