Girls in guys clothes strode down the runway of Sir Paul Smith’s AW12 womenswear show, with hands in their Tweed pockets and a mannish overcoat slung across their turtleneck-knit-clad shoulders. Taking place at the grand Royal Horticultural Halls, silky smoking jackets and full suits of dark turquoise crushed velvet revealed a recurring theme of rich, luxurious texture. Tailored suits were kept flirtatious with sheer, shimmering shirts and silky white collars, while cigarette pants in deep autumnal and aubergine shades were detailed with the classic Paul Smith stripe. These ever so slightly dishevelled models had a touch of geek chic about them with side partings, low pony’s and thick rimmed specs, their ankle swingers hovering above patent loafers. Lavish and certainly dapper, the new Paul Smith woman is taking a man’s world in her jewel toned stride.
