For AW12, Emma Hill and her team paid homage to Maurice Sendak’s cult children’s tale, Where The Wild Things Are. Giant monsters flanked the catwalk, while editors (and celebs – hello Lana Del Rey, Lizzie Olsen, Azealia Banks, Bill Nighy and Michelle Williams) took their seats on a series of black furry benches. i-D cover star Lara Mullen opened the show to the sound of a giant roar, before a monster mash of hits had everyone smiling and tapping their feet. The theme offered the Mulberry design team plenty of scope for experimentation, resulting in one of their most playful, charming and covetable collections yet. Shaggy brown furs came oversized and belted at the waist, knits were outrageously chunky, while fuzzy teddy bear coats were screaming out to snuggle in. Favourite pieces included an orange quilted leather jacket, Yeti pencil skirt (combs at the ready) and a shiny oversized orange overcoat with black fur lining. The perfect antidote to a cold February morning, Mulberry’s monsters left you all warm and fuzzy inside.
