Launching our i-Sustain series almost a year ago in collaboration with LCF’s Centre for Sustainable Fashion, each month we throw the spotlight on a particular designer striding towards a more sustainable fashion landscape. One such individual was Martina Spetlova. Born and bred in Czech Republic and trained in the hallowed halls of Central Saint Martins, Martina resurrects so called ‘waste material’ to create colourful and celebratory garments with a feast of different fabrics. Premiering her fashion film produced in collaboration with Jonas Lindström here on i-D online, Martina goes back to basics for AW12, employing traditional techniques of pleating and quilting across the collection. With her vivid signature marks of mixed media and a clashing colour palette distinct in each piece, Spetlova is fast developing a brand that will sustain the stormy fashion seas.
