Marc by Marc Jacobs. New York, 14/02/12

To the industrial rhythms of Public Image Limited’s electro post-punk ‘The Order of Death,’ Marc Jacobs sent a battalion of models stomping around the New York State Armory. A return to grunge via a high-speed highway, the Marc by Marc Jacobs collection was edgy, combatant and a little angry, a total contrast to the whimsy of Monday night’s mainline collection. The dominant silhouette was a loose relaxed dress with a big bell skirt pared down with utilitarian workwear and accessorised with combat boots and drummer boy hats. Florals were of the darkest variety, velvets were sumptuously rich, whilst the rockstar lamés were amped up to full voltage and gave this ‘New Model Army’ a healthy dose of rebellion.
