J. W. Anderson. London, 19/02/12

Mix together clinical white quilting resembling the walls of a padded cell, fabrics transposed from household upholstery, PVC institutional uniforms and fisherman hats and you have just some of the intriguing elements of J.W. Anderson’s Fall/Winter show. Titled “Chambers of Isolation”, the show saw the young Scot exploring the idea of a housewife oppressed by the confines of domesticity; what resulted was a brave and intelligent collection that deftly mixed exciting fabrics and ‘on-the-money’ silhouettes. Stark tweed boxy jackets were paired neatly with A-line oil-slick leather skirts while waffle-y and nubby knits were sobered by neoprene-quilted vests and glossy patents shined confidently against brushed coloured plaid. An inspired collection reaffirming this talented designer’s growing international reputation as one of London’s brightest stars!
