With its allusions to “the roaring 20s” – especially in the floppy hatting – and its tapered velvety “Bermudas” worn under every look, Little Winter Follies was a playful Emporio Armani show. There was a girlish charm to everything, with the models walking out in twos (and fours, and even sixes), wearing only flats and sometimes clasping each other like BFFs. Although the collection started out in the wintry colours of cold days and dark nights – blacks, blues and greys – our favourite looks were a riot of colour: hand-painted, long-haired Mongolian lamb jackets draped over plaids, like a luxurious take on Meadham Kirchhoff meets Alex Mattsson. In other places the model twins seemed to be walking side-by-side through an enchanted forest, in their colourful foliage-patterned coats, floral brocades and polychromatic jackets. The final look combined baggy sequined blouses, massive beaded necklaces down to the knees, sweet fascinators and, of course, the ubiquitous black pantaloon Bermudas.
