With skyscrapers printed all over the catwalk and yellow cabs as a backdrop, things don’t get much more NYC than DKNY. This season, the models entered the runway straight off the frosty sidewalk, looking every inch the stylish New Yorkers that have always been at the heart of Karan’s vision. Referencing the ‘Beat Generation’ as her inspiration for AW12, there was a lot of black leather and a ‘no-fuss’ attitude but these girls had a lot more polish than Mary-Lou. Shiny shearling coats with cool high buckled shearling collars were followed by strict leather skirt suits with flirty hemlines and some seriously sumptuous burgundy fur. These tough city girls mean business and look like they get their coffee to go.
