As the Burberry tent landed in the spectacular setting of Kensington Gardens, the brand’s Chief Creative Officer, Christopher Bailey, cleverly managed to mix Downton Abbey with a relevant contemporary street edge. The silhouette was lady-like and classic hourglass, with the emphasis on hips (often exagerrated with pockets at the bottom of jackets) countered with Tweedy flat-caps, and finished with pointy lace-up boots. As the show progressed things became more urban and street-wise, with shapely puffas, cropped bombers and re-workings of field jackets with thick gold hardwear bringing things smack into the 21st century. For the finale, the omnipotent Bailey arranged for Burberry’s very own rainstorm to fall on the clear plastic roof of the show marquee and for clear plastic raindrops to tumble onto the runway as the models walked with umbrellas aloft!
