Paul Smith. Paris, 22/01/12

Sir Paul Smith took to the seven seas for AW12. To the sound of crashing waves he presented a rugged, rough-around-the-edges, ship shape collection.

Button-up, the outlook’s stylish but stormy. Always eclectic in his casting, many designers have taken a leaf out of Sir Smith’s address book this season with flowing barnets, bushy beards and ‘older’ chaps appearing left right and centre. The Smith sailors came complete with windswept manes and sea-faring facial hair. Prints were sea-themed, necks were scooped, collars high and fabrics hard-wearing. Keeping to the oceanic-theme the palette was largely navy and black, but true to form an injection of colour in fluoro panels on coats and bag handles, perfect to brighten up a rainy day. Highlights came in the array of outerwear; zippered and buttoned, collarless and puffed, a coat for every season. Ho ho ho, a Paul Smith pirate’s life for me!
