Let’s do this one backwards. As the last model disappeared behind the curtain, and people started gathering their things, a guitarist appeared in the spotlight and started rocking his heart out, the perfect end to a truly rock ‘n’ roll collection.

The casting was the key. Pretty boys didn’t cut it this time. Instead Creative Director Renzo Rosso opted for blokes not boys, with long hair, piercings, tunnels, full sleeve tattoos and a bit of life experience. i-D spotted Greg Payne, making his second coming. “We don’t want to create a collection for just one kind of person”, Rosso told i-D. “We want models who live life, who have different attitudes.” Leather jackets, biker boots, belt chains and a rock star red two piece captured the spirit nicely. And his musical inspirations? “My education is from ’68, so The Beatles, Rolling Stones, Black Sabbath, Led Zeppelin but I love all music, from Rage Against the Machine to Madonna or Lady Gaga! The best music is 80s, if you want to dance on the table, 80s is the best”. Noted. A strong concept and expert execution made Diesel Black Gold stay in our heads.
