Paris’s École Nationale Supérieure des Beaux-Arts was under threat of alien invasion last night as Adam Kimmel debuted his AW12 intergalactic-inspired collection.

Taking us on a planetary adventure Kimmel did what he does best, using his exacting eye for luxury and detail to rework traditional utility-wear. With many members of the cast looking as though they’d stepped straight off a Lynchian, Area 51-based US drama, the palette of workwear navy blue and military shades of sand echoed the alien-themed collection. In overalls, belted trenches, life jackets and a particularly fetching pilot’s helmet, Adam took inspiration from CIA special-operations and US Air Force uniform, making his AW12 collection perfect for the man about town who’s ready to take a walk on the wild side. Working with i-D contributor Matthew Stone on a soundscape for the show, the audience was immersed in Kimmel’s NASA adventures as the venue was filled with accounts of UFO sightings and the rumbles of rocket-launches. Also calling on the services of another of his pals, illusionist David Blaine (fresh from recently taking a dangerous dive for dinner in a video for the designer), Adam injected a little unidentifiable activity of his own into the show, as a magic portal whisked models on and off the runway. Together the three minds made for a top trio, injecting some sartorially savvy, tongue in cheek fun to the Paris shows. Beam us up Kimmel!
