Acne. Paris, 22/01/12

Another design house to pair red with burgundy (Lanvin did the same), Acne played with all the rich, wintry colours and a wide selection of materials, faux and real.

Creative Director, Jonny Johansson also played with prints and sprinkled hearts everywhere, across suits and shirts that were matched with slim-cut, ankle length trousers and suits. i-D online spoke with him after the show…

So polkadots and hearts, tell us about that print… It’s actually only hearts but they’re different sizes so some of them look like polkadots. I had a friend who had love problems and we were talking about life, kids, love, those things and how men sort of carry love around in their hands more than women who are better at expressing or showing love. Men have secrets that they walk around with and can’t really show it especially with kids so this Acne guy is here to express this. He’s literally wearing his heart on his sleeve? Yes, thank you. Tell us more… Well this collection started out with the word ‘fake’ which came about in the fabric we researched, fake leathers, fake furs, we thought this is cute, this is fun, this is young. To place these fabrics on the table with classic materials like Harris tweed was a good crash I think. I like putting things together that normally don’t go together. What are your plans for 2012? Be a better person. And for Acne? We’re finalising things for womenswear in London. Then I’m going to Copenhagen for one night because we’re opening a store down there. All the stores are different so we have to individually make the stores. The theme for the Copenhagen store is the red-light district…
