Some people write seminal books, others give seminal speeches. Richard Mortimer throws seminal parties. And he’s about to do another one, just the one, on New Year’s Eve. If you don’t get in, you’ll be kicking yourself for the rest of the year. But if you do…

Like Willy Wonka’s chocolate factory, Richard Mortimer’s BoomBox closed for business in January 2008. For four years, nobody went in and nobody came out. Now for one night only, BoomBox is resurrecting and there’s golden tickets up for grabs! First conceived in 2004 when Richard and his mate Danilo (Milic) decided they were bored of Shoreditch nights, BoomBox has welcomed Bjork, Kylie, Sam Taylor-Wood and Agyness Deyn to the decks, staged performances by Beth Ditto and Roisin Murphy and counted Kate Moss and Naomi Campbell through the doors. But it’s not about who you are or what you do, just look good in your clothes.
This NYE, the lineup sees the original BoomBox residents, Jerry Bouthier, Matthew Stone, DJ ROKK, Princess Julia and Nathan Gregory Wilkins playing together again for the first time in four years and the door manned by beady-eyed BoomBox bouncers Cozette McCreery, Jeanette and Nuno. To celebrate the come back, Hoxton Square Bar and Kitchen (the original scene of the crime) will host a static exhibition of photographs from parties past, running throughout January for nostalgic stragglers. It’s an education in London’s infamous club scene and if you don’t make it, a rub in the face of what you missed out on!
Tickets for the BoomBox NYE extravaganza are on sale at Hoxton Square Bar and Kitchen, The George and Dragon, 3939 on Kingsland Road and Maiden on Shoreditch High Street priced at £20. BoomBox – The Retrospective is open from December 31st.
